Caliper gages can be a very useful tool around the shop for quick ID and OD measurements. It is always best practice to set your caliper gage to a gage blocks (OD) or a setting ring (ID) prior to using to ensure the caliper gage is set correctly and measuring accurately. The ID caliper gages are great for checking internal grooves where you do not have to cut your parts in half in order to check your dimensions are correct.
