Portable surface roughness gages were intended to only be used in a lab like environment until Fowler introduced the X-Pro. The Fowler X-Pro Surface Roughness Gage has been available on the U.S. market for a number of years now, but is gaining popularity among users. Similar to other surface roughness gages, the X-Pro allows users to be able to take measurements in Ra or Rz, but does not come with the same price tag as other profilometers.

The X-Pro is a small and durable surface roughness gage that is robust enough to be used out on the shop floor. The X-Pro is offered with two different stylus: .0002″ and .0004″. There are also many specialty probes available for special applications as well as a swivel stand to hold the X-Pro. Each surface roughness gage includes a certified test specimen that users can use to ensure the gage is accurate and repeating prior to using on your parts.
The X-Pro surface roughness gage is easy to operate and only takes a few minutes to master. The X-Pro has selectable cut-offs as well as selectable traverse lengths. The probe can swivel 270° and can be used in a variety of different set ups depending on the measuring application. Overall, the X-Pro is accurate, repeatable, and offered at a great price point compared to other portable surface roughness units.
