A dial indicator is a precision measurement tool that measures small distances and angles through a process of amplification. By magnifying the degree of distance, a dial indicator makes the deviation between an expected position and an actual position much easier to recognize and accurately measure. Dial indicators are called such because they are used to indicate to the operator a distance which may not otherwise be noticeable.
