A digital caliper is a type of caliper that is very similar in function to a Vernier caliper. Digital calipers are multifaceted and capable of outside, inside, and depth distance measurements. The central readout on a digital caliper is an electronic digital display. Using a linear encoder to determine measurement, digital calipers can be very accurate and are often able to alternate between different measurement units. One main advantage of digital calipers is that they may be connected to a computer source to facilitate data recording. Back to entire glossary
